Golden State Warriors to build New Arena on SF Waterfront
The news is finally official! The Golden State Warriors have announced the plans to build a new Sports and Entertainment Arena on the waterfront in San Francisco. The privately funded arena (which is estimated to be in the $500 Million range) will be built along Pier 30-32 and should fit approximately 17,000 to 19,000 people. Mayor Ed Lee stated that it will be open by the start of the 2017-18 Season.
The new space will allow room for 100,000 sq. ft of retail/restaurant space as well as space to host concerts, conventions and other city events. Co-owners Joe Lacob and Peter Gruber have been looking for a new home for the Stadium since they purchased the team a little over a year ago.
This does make things a little better after the announcement that we are losing the San Francisco 49ers Stadium to Santa Clara.
