Zach Zobiech was diagnosed with Cancer at the age of 14. He passed away on May 20, but left behind an inspirational story like no other. Zach, his girlfriend Amy and his family represent a goodness that can’t help make you smile, despite the inevitable ending to the story. This is truly a story of living life to the fullest no matter what.

Zach Sobiech, the Minnesota teenager who became an Internet sensation for a song he wrote about fighting cancer, succumbed to the disease Monday morning.
He was 18.
Sobiech was just 14 when he was diagnosed with bone cancer and wrote a song called “Clouds” about saying goodbye.
Earlier this month, a lip-synching video tribute featuring celebrities including Ashley Tisdale, Jenna Fischer and Jason Mraz appeared on Rainn Wilson’s SoulPancake YouTube channel.
“It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of our son Zachary David Sobiech,” his family said in a statement released to the “Today” show.
His relatives asked that remembrances be made in the form of donations to the Zach Sobiech Osteosarcoma Foundation, which helps children with cancer.

They played tonight in LA but they are rocking Shoreline on Sunday!

If seeing is believing, the audience at Weenie Roast 2013 definitely left as believers in the power of music. The unbelievable magic of the night was doubly-amplified after all the amazing sets earlier when sonic swamis of alt-stadium rock, Stone Temple Pilots, brought Chester Bennington from Linkin Park out as a featured vocalist.

Constant controversy has surrounded Stone Temple Pilots’ ex-frontman Scott Weiland–complete with conflicting reports on his status with the band.

That’s why when Stone Temple Pilots appeared onstage, the audience’s hands gripped curiously onto their seats and eyes watched the stage with disbelief as Bennington joined the band tonight.

The bus will depart from The Republic (3231 Scott at Lombard) at 11AM. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to check in. We will also be stopping at Noble (601 Polk Street) on the way and departing at 11:15. You can go to either location, but please arrive early as we will be leaving as close to on time as possible.

We will have a check in at The Republic where you will grab your bus wristband. If you choose to go to Noble, check in at the door and then make sure that you are outside before 11:15. The bus is a large 55 passenger bus, so it will be hard to miss.

We will have information sheets on the bus with information about the return.

Drinks (Beers, etc.) will be provided on the bus, but you can feel free to bring your own as well.

Artist Riders have always been an interesting point of discussion, offering an “inside look” into the secret life backstage for many famous bands and Djs. Although the requests hit every end of the spectrum from pompous and ridiculous (Kanye West recently asked for “ Imported and recut Versace towels” and  requested that that any chauffeur who drives him wear only 100 percent cotton clothes. “No man-made fibers.”) to hilarious (Diplo requests One Violin Player (to play while we eat our cheese plate), One Malawian Orphan, a 1983 G.I. Joe Storm Shadow Action Figure (New in Package), a dart board (with Nicolas Cage’s face on it) and a Short Wave Radio among other things); many of them are not very unreasonable at all.

One of the most infamous rider requests was the strange “no Brown M&Ms” request by Van Halen. While this may seem in line with some of the recent obnoxious artist requests, the method behind this madness was actually functional.  Since Van Halen was one of the first big bands to take their stadium show into secondary markets,  serious safety concerns regarding the power, staging, etc. became a big factor. The technical specs were extremely detailed in the rider, however David Lee Roth was concerned that promoters wouldn’t read it closely. So, the brown M&Ms were basically actually a “canary in a coal mine” that would alert them to check the other aspects of the contract more carefully.”

It was the longest game in the A’s or Angels  history and definitely one for the record books. It wasn’t until 1AM when Brandon Moss finally hit a 2 run homer to end it. (The record for the longest game in Major League Baseball history was 8 Hours and 40 Minutes)

By the end of the A’s game on Monday night, it was Tuesday morning, and Brett Anderson – scratched from the start Monday night– was on the mound. That’s how crazy things got in the longest game in Oakland A’s history and in Angels franchise history.

Brandon Moss finally ended things with two outs in the 19th inning, hitting a two-run homer 13 innings after his previous solo homer to give the A’s a 10-8 victory over the Angels. It was Moss’ third career walkoff homer, and it was the A’s second walkoff win in as many days. According to Elias Sports, it’s the second time in team history the A’s have overcome five-run deficits to win two games in a row – and the other time was in 1941.

“It’s one of those things where you just want to quit, but you don’t want to lose, so you keep fighting through it and hope they throw a ball into your bat,” Moss said. “I don’t even know how I hit it, I was so late on everything after the 10th inning.”

Moss did get the customary whipped-cream pie in the face, but Josh Reddick handed him the pie tin and Moss smacked it against his own face. Nutty stuff happens after 1 a.m.

“Reddick was too tired to pie me, so yeah, I did pie myself,” Moss said.

Anderson, making his first career relief appearance in a game that, again, he’d been scratched from, worked 5 1/3 innings, going longer than the man who’d replaced him Monday night. But even he wasn’t around until the end, his injured ankle tightening up on him, and neither were three injured outfielders – the A’s Coco Crisp and Chris Young and the Angels’ Peter Bourjos, all hurt running to first base.

The A’s are likely to need to make several moves Tuesday, including getting at least one outfielder (Michael Taylor can return if someone goes on the DL) and one pitcher, probably Evan Scribner. But there could be more moves than that if the team is especially depleted. Anderson said after the game that he doesn’t think he made his ankle any worse than it was and – at least right now – he thinks he can take his turn in the rotation the next time it comes around. “We’ll see how it feels tomorrow,” he said.

The game, at 6 hours and 32, beat the previous Oakland A’s time record by 32 minutes. The last time the A’s played 19 innings was August 10-11, 1972, against the White Sox. The longest previous Angels game was 6:06. The teams combined to throw 598 pitches.

“It should be a record,” Moss said. “It was exhausting.”

The Angels took the lead in the 15th inning when Anderson walked J.B. Shuck to force in Brendan Harris with two outs. But the A’s tied it back up in the bottom of the inning: Josh Donaldson reached on an error, Derek Norris walked and, after Young hit into a double play that erased Donaldson, Adam Rosales singled to center.

Crisp left the game after the 13th inning with a strained left hamstring, the same injury that knocked Angels center fielder Bourjos out of the game in extra innings. Young then appeared to be hurt after running to first base in the bottom of the 15th. He came out of the game with what was announced as a strained left quadriceps, DH Seth Smith moved to left and Yoenis Cespedes to center field, and the A’s lost the DH spot. Reliever Jerry Blevins had his first big-league at-bat, in the 18th, and struck out.

Blevins got the victory.
